Editor’s Note : “Unlike most of the work posted on MECHA MESSIAH this week’s episode was entirely generated by and for authentic humane beings. It actually used to be the introduction to my $5 Sci-Fi writing gig on Fivrr many moons ago. P.S. Please let us know if you would like to experience more human generated content. ~ D’Wizard!”
Once, there came a day when all peace talks failed and with no common ground or accord to be found, the missiles flew.
I.C.B.M. was the acronym; Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles, each containing multiple atomic warheads.
Thousands of rockets streaking from hidden bunkers and secret submarines. All on target for the most strategic locations around the world. No country, no continent was exempt from the onslaught.
Some prayed, some simply gave up. Others just stood staring, holding their breath for the longest pregnant pause in the history of our species.
Then something strange happened... Something truly unexpected... Not a single thing. Nothing. Nada.
You see, amidst the height of the Frozen War there was a tiny detail every nation had forgotten; the lowly technician. Or more accurately a secret affiliation of technicians, repairmen and assorted janitorial salts of the Earth.
All working independently and without knowledge of one another to ensure our survival. All it took was a snipped wire here, a missing screw there or a big red button that simply did nothing. How could a highly educated leadership on its high horse have known the difference between a flashing panel of lights inducing the “end of the world” and the greatest show of neutered weapons ever unleashed?
In the aftermath, with so many having come so close to assumed annihilation, the nuclear option was permanently defused. As the flaccid idiocy of mutually assured destruction was finally recognized, it was not long before an unbreakable worldwide peace was established.
Technologies were allowed to flourish unimpeded and run their natural course without materialist over-interest. It was not long before sustainable solutions for mutually assured survival were established and our world slowly begun regrowing its status of utopian paradise.
Except this time, the newly christened "Humane Race" remained as wardens, nurturing self-awareness for the entirety of all species which encompass life.
NEVER THE END…
